Week 10 Tainui Netball Tournament

Well done to all the 9 Tainui Netball team for their awesome display of sportsmanship and competitiveness.

My holiday challenge is to email Room 1 and see how many students can add a comment about how they felt about the Netball sessions leading up to the tournament and the tournament day.

So enjoy looking at the photos and great to see such happy students playing the awesome game of Netball.

Shaanveer's technical concept of shooting hoops.

Shocking Seats by Laura got many people intrigued about her science investigation.

Emma's concept of the relationship between waves and wind proved a winner.

The Meaning behind the Waikato-Tainui Chiefs

Ko Waikato te awa

Ko Taupiri te maunga

Ko Te Wherowhero te tangata

Waikato Taniwhara

He piko, he taniwha

He piko, he taniwha

Waikato is the river

Taupiri is the mountain

Te Wherowhero is the chief

Waikato of a hundred chiefs

At every bend, a chief

At every bend, a chief

Explain in your own words what is the connection
between the
Chiefs symbol and this hepeha (Tainui saying)

Research for Waikato River Proverb / Pepeha

Waikato-Tainui have many pepeha or sayings that acknowledge the connection between the river and the people. One of these is:

“Waikato taniwha rau,
he piko he taniwha”

or

“Waikato of a hundred chiefs, at every bend a chief”.

Taniwha (a guardian) is used as a metaphor for a chief and recognises the many communities along the Waikato River. It acknowledges the connection between the river and the people.

Find out the full proverb through the link below and illustrate it through a collage in River Google Slide:
