Speeches have really kicked off in class and leading into Week 3 is the following task.
View the video link and comment on what makes this a good speech/what could be improved on.
Finnian Galbraith Yr 11 Kapiti College 2015
You might like to think about the success criteria / rubric we are using for our speeches.
I think the good things about the speech was at the end it had a rhetorical question and he had a really good speech topic 'The importance of correct pronouncing Maori words'. The bad things about it was he could of used a bit of WOW words.
ReplyDeletethats right what he said that too many people are saying the langage wrong because its the new zealand thing, mrs arm strong my name has only one c by the way.
ReplyDeleteI know. Sorry see me about correcting it.
DeleteI thought his speech was good because he had a topic that hooked you in and he was speaking really confidently. He wasn't constantly reading from his script and he ended it with a rhetorical question so all round I found it pretty interesting. I agree with Faith that it could have used some more WOW words though.
ReplyDelete- I couldn't log out of the ID but this is Laura.
I agree with Finnian and I think that every one should learn how to say maori words correctly because its our culture and our core language.
ReplyDeleteI like speeches because i like hunting and i like writing about making the right choice on hunting it will be fun and i have start writing my speech last night.
ReplyDeleteWhat he said was right cause to much people are pronouncing Maori names wrong and until all the kaumatua are gone and we are left to spread the language no one will know cause they will be pronouncing Maori words wrong. Other than that he had a rhetorical question for his hook in but he just needs to memorize his speech instead of constantly looking at his script
ReplyDeleteAnd needs more WOW words.
I think that everyone should be able to pronounce maori name right because maoris are a big part of nz and they were here before the English.
ReplyDeleteSam just remember Maori and NZ need capital letters because they are proper nouns. Mrs Armstrong
ReplyDeleteThis was a great speech due to the use of many speech devices including imperatives and rhetorical questions. He was also very passionate about his speech topic.
ReplyDeletei think that this is a good speech it was powerful, clear and maintained eye contact throughout this video pronouncing Maori names and words wrong shouldn't be taken lightly this is our country our home and people should respect that Maori is our culture even if your not Maori we all live in New Zealand and that's just our culture we should be proud to have our own language.

He used to look up sometimes, but not that good, and he was moving his hands too much
ReplyDeleteMade good points that made you think.
ReplyDeleteHe was making a strong key statement about Maori words and he could have improved on hand gestures
ReplyDeleteHe was very good at looking up but he needs to work on moving his hands.
ReplyDeleteI think he made some good points and i think he's brave proposing such a big idea to so many people. It was a well executed and daring speech.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the speech topic and he had great gesture but he needs to not show show the paper when presenting a speech.
ReplyDeleteHe's moving his hands to much which kind put me off but he gave a really good message though :)
ReplyDeleteI thought that was an great speech but he kind of move his hand lot in this speech at last their was a retorichol questions.
