Over the last 3 weeks we have talked about how our school signage and values are linked together.
A Room 1 student wrote an excellent explanation about this last year and this was published in the Morrinsville Intermediate School Year Book.
School Values
Morrinsville Intermediate, a school, a friend, a
family, bound together by trust respect that we share with one another.
Together we are as strong as the rope weaved by the harakeke of Aotearoa, of
the Piako area. Like the harakeke we care for each other, we, the students, are
the rito of the plant, needing the protection of the matua, the parents and
teachers, that provide and shelter us. MIS is a school of values, that we all
follow to build the special bond that we share.
Manaakitanga - caring for each other, Rangatiratanga -
caring for ourselves, Whakawhanaungatanga - caring for the community,
Kaitiakitanga - caring for the environment. These are the four values that, as
a school, we follow that strengthen the bond that has made us a family.
Manaakitanga, caring for each other, we do this by respecting and trusting,
others. Rangatiratanga, caring for ourselves, we do this by taking pride in
everything we do, as well as giving everything a go. Whakawhanaungatanga,
caring for the community, we do this by treating everyone with courtesy and politeness.
Kaitiakitanga, caring for the environment, we do this by not littering and
picking up odd bits of rubbish and putting it in the bin.
Morrinsville Intermediate’s new branding means so
much more to me now that I know its origins, for me it stands for “Kia U Ki Te
Pai, Whatever You Do, Let It Be Your Best”, and not just that, it means
following these values to do your best.

How can we demonstrate our school values in our school and at home?
Be kind to others even if you do not know them.
ReplyDeleteShowing the rules at school and just not at school in the public and where ever you go do whakawhanaungatanga ;caring for the community
ReplyDeleteBe nice to everyone even if you don't know them. Don't litter and care for the community.
ReplyDeleteIt was very interesting be kind to other even when they are not to you. I also like the word respect.
ReplyDeleteRespect everyone and they will respect you, help each other out.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree Stas. Mrs Armstrong
DeleteWell done Room 1 - it's nice to read your thinking and ideas. Keep up the good work.
DeleteI think we can demonstrate our school values by helping others out in the playground and in the class room but making sure you do the best for yourself.
ReplyDeleterespecting your family members and school mates in the classroom and at home.
ReplyDeletealso helping out.
Help one another when they need help when some one feels lonely let them join in
ReplyDeleteCare for the comunityby helping one another what is whakawhanaugatanga, use the school moto (What ever u do let it be your best) and if someone is alone ask them if they want to join in.
ReplyDeleteI think we could (should) do what we have to but at the same time not forgeting who we are.
ReplyDeleteTreating others how you'd like to be treated relates to our values quite a lot, yet a lot of us tend to mistreat our environment even when we're not aware of it. I say treating things alive or not with respect plays an important role in the meaning of our values, and we can use respect towards everything wherever we go.
ReplyDeleteMaking sure that everyone has someone there for them and let them join in the fun
ReplyDeleteA nice comment Tegan. Mrs Armstrong
DeleteWe can demonstrate the values by being kind and giving 100% in everything that we do. There are probably loads more but those are the two that I think are the most important.
ReplyDeleteJordan
we can demonstrate the values by being kind and giving 100% in everything that we do
ReplyDeleteYou copy cat.
DeleteRespect and be nice to everyone. Also do our best at everything.
ReplyDeletewe can do this by looking out for each other and also that was a fantastic piece of writing !!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteHelp people through tough times and take pride in everything you do.
ReplyDeletewe can all be nice to friends and fan ow and yous the values
ReplyDeleteCorrect version - We can all be nice to friend and Whanau, and use the values.
DeleteKeep checking on your spelling Tyler.
I think that was a great piece of writing and we need to keep on using the value Kia u Ki Te Pia and you will do fine
ReplyDeleteWow what a great piece of writing I think we all can relate to what Jimmy had to say by giving everything 100% and treat others exactly how you'd like to be treated and remember what goes around comes around
ReplyDeleteEven if you don't like a person you still have to be nice to them.
ReplyDeleteTreat people how you would like to be treated.
I absolutely agree Natalya.
DeleteRepect others and help someone out even if you dont know them
