I wonder...topics

Week 9 Work in Class.

Room 1 has been investigating their learning styles, have identified 3 main learning styles and recorded on our Room 1 Blog something we would give a go if we knew that we would not fail.

They have now moved onto selecting an area that they are passionate about or interested in, this is self-directed by each student, and are presently developing a newly acquired skill. This skill will be shared with others on a celebration day early next term and allows us to embody the school value of 'Rangatiratanga - doing the best for our self.'

Record your 'I wonder... ' skill you are learning on the Room 1 Blog and explain why you selected it.
Good luck for trying something without the fear of failing.

I am looking forward to seeing your progress in your learning on Wednesday.
Have a cool Tuesday.

Week 8

No matter how many times you are pushed back, get up and keep going.
(Wise words from a minion)

1. Tell us the awesome thing you would give a go if you knew you would not fail.

2. How could you make this awesome thing happen?

Leave a comment that explains these two questions.

During Week 7 Room 1 had two amazing Makuhari (from Japan) in a our class for a couple of days. They wrote a piece of writing about themselves, joined in the Music lessons with the Year 7's, completed (in lightning speed) complicated Algebra problems and Room 1 got to ask some questions about their life in Japan.

They were excellent teachers in showing us how to do origami because by the end of the day all the students left with a paper crane.

Patricio and Faith (from Room 1) were great Kiwi hosts for these two students and were able to show their visitors some cool places in New Zealand.

This photo is represents a happy bunch of at the end of the day.

Congratulations on the following students above who have shared their Blog link with the Room 1 Blog. Enjoy exploring their Blogs and remember that only sensible comments can be added because we will be using our school value of Manaakitanga.

We just need 8 more ASAP please.

This is the correct order - Well done Ella

Week 6 Homework

Part of our classroom goal was the following homework activities for Week 6.

1. Publish your best Quick Write into your Writing Folder

2.  Email Mrs Armstrong your Blog address - 11 people have done that so far.

2. Comment on Room 1 Week 5 post.

3. Complete Hei Mihi and have it in your Topic Folder.
It must be in the correct folder - Topic
It must have the correct order.
It must have 3 - 4 images related to your Hei Mihi.

N.B. See Ella's Hei Mihi above

Week 5
Has come and gone, and it was a week where students built on their co-operative skills in many ways.

1. Developing language ideas with a partner through a word column: adjective, noun, adverb, verb.

2. Caleb and Laura (Room 1 Class Councillors) published an Easter Raffle notice to encourage as many Room 1 people as possible to bring an item to school.

3. We had several students on Thursday afternoon taking on the role of 'Teacher' as they helped other students learn about creating Blogs, up-loading Wordle or making a slides on google.docs for their Hei Mihi,

4. The Sports Councillors are teaching co-operative games in P.E. / PC (Player Centred sessions).

5. Finally Room 1 have worked together to achieve 25 class points. They are going to challenge Room 8 on Thursday Week 6 (because we were very busy in Week 5).

Please leave a comment about your best co-operative time at school so far in Room 1 and explain how you demonstrated Manaakitanga.

Because the acronym TEAM says it all!!!

P.S. (Post Script) - Room 1 learnt about acronyms in class today and we found out there are heaps of acronyms out there.

Did you know if you Google 'What does P.S. stand for?'
The search found 231!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Technology is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Week 4

A very exciting week because we had an awesome bunch of students swimming for our school swimming sports and we WON the ...
Te Kotahitanga Trophy and the trophy represents 'Unity, Oneness, Harmony'.

Great to see Tainui 'Go for Gold' and we celebrated in Friday assembly by a powerful team chant.

Another exciting thing was all Room 1 students all created their own Blog, and in Week 5, hopefully all students will have some work to up-loaded onto the Blog. Blogs are a way to celebrate cool things done in the classroom and show case student's work.

Rangatiratanga - Doing the best for ourselves
Since the beginning of Term 1 we have been exploring many aspects of Rangatiratanga and this weaves in really well with our school motto 'Kia U Ki Te Pai - Whatever you do, Let it be your best.'

Part of this investigation is to create our own 'Hei Mihi' on the computer and up-load on onto the students Blog.

Above are some hard working students working in their 'Hei Mihi'

Add a comment about why we are learning to create our own 'Hei Mihi' and find out why it is an important part of the Maori culture.
